A Greener Way to Fitness

On Thursday 2nd February approximately 20 local volunteers and staff from the Suffolk Wildlife Trust joined warden Nick Mason and two fitness instructors from Fitness Express at Ufford Park for a “workout on the heath”.

Preparing for the day

After a ten-minute warming up session with David and Laura from Fitness Express work was started clearing Birch and Pine from an area of heath land overgrown in the last few years thus encouraging the re-growth of heather so important in sustaining populations of Dartford Warbler, Redstart, Wood Lark, Nightjar and Silver Studded Blue Butterfly.

Saw work

Workers were rewarded with free day passes at Fitness Express. Well-deserved and very welcome after a hard days “workout.” The transformation of this area is amazing and a short walk from the Red Lodge car park will give a superb view of the group’s achievements.

Work parties will continue on the first Sunday of each month through to April after which work ceases for the birds breeding season and will commence again in September. If you could spare a few hours once a month warden Nick Mason would be happy to hear from you on 01394 411150.
