Woodbridge Society to List Timber Framed Buildings

Many of the timber framed buildings that line the streets of Woodbridge are hidden behind brick facades added in the centuries since they were first built. Now, the Woodbridge Society intends to remedy this gap in our knowledge of the town.

In the first stage of the investigation groups of four or five people will make a series of visual surveys from the road of buildings likely to be timber framed. A simple questionnaire will then be sent to the occupiers of buildings that have been identified as of interest. They will be asked if there are any internal features indicating that their building has a timber frame, and whether there are any exposed external timbers not visible from the road.

The final list of buildings will be held in the Woodbridge Museum on Market Hill, and copies will be made available to owners of the buildings surveyed and to members of the Woodbridge Society.

Anyone living in a building that might have a timber frame or anyone with concerns about the survey should contact Eddie Taylor on 01394 386504 or Bob Merrett on 01394 385572.
