SECOND FOLK FESTIVAL

 

Morris in Thoroughfare, 2005Folk musicians will flood into Woodbridge for Second Festival Woodbridge will be alive with the sounds of music, the rhythm of dance and the clatter of clogs in early June. Almost 200 performers in 25 different groups will participate in the Second Suffolk Folk Festival over three days, starting on Friday 2 June. The highlight will be a folk-rock Ceilidh attended by an expected 300 people.

This Second Festival follows last year’s highly successful event. Groups have already been booked from five English counties, plus one from France. Other groups from as far away as Iraq and India have also expressed an interest in taking part, and the influx of visitors attracted to the event will include a group of 30 from Germany.

Performers on Ferry Quay, Bass's Dock, 2005A variety of open air events will be staged at 11 locations in the town centre, in the Thoroughfare, in Elmhurst Park and on the riverside, with shanty men and dance groups ranging from three different kinds of Morris dancing to Sword and Appalachian clog dancing. Local folk musicians and singers are expected to perform in various venues in the town during the Festival.

The Ceilidh, which features leading folk rock group The Aardvark, is from 7.0pm to 11.0pm on Saturday 3 June in The Dome at Woodbridge School. Tickets for this can be booked on 01473 785180 at £5 for adults and £2.50 for under 16s. Last year’s event was a sell out success with all ages having a tremendous and energetic evening out. All the other events are free.
