Bawdsey Radar GroupSunday 29th July 2007
Pigeon Release & Magic Ear Exhibition
Transmitter Block, Bawdsey
Organized by: Bawdsey Radar Group, for the benefit of Lyndall Phelps' WW2 Pigeon Project
Starts 12 noon - Ends 4.00 pm
Charges: Adults: £2.50 Children: Free

Note: We regret to have to announce the pigeon release has had to be cancelled. A number of trial releases have been undertaken and serious difficulties have been encountered. The pigeons' natural behaviour appears to have been unsettled by a combination of wearing the message carriers and being released from directions other than north of their home loft.

The Magic Ear Exhibition tells the story of radar. In 1937 Bawdsey was the first of the "chain home" radar stations which played a crucial role in the Battle of Britain.
The Transmitter Block is off the B1083, 1 mile beyond Bawdsey Village, nr Woodbridge, Suffolk.
Here's an aerial photo that can be switched to a map.
There is access to Bawdsey Quay from Felixstowe via a foot ferry.
The Transmitter Block is approximately 1 mile from Bawdsey Quay
